| Name: | Junpei Iori |
|---|
| So, let us imagine you’re just an average teenager, living your average life, going to your average school, ignoring your average homework. Everything’s all fine and dandy and normal (except for the fact that you can’t seem to get a date – therefore all of the girls at school must have abnormal brains or something. Ah, such is life) until one night at a convenience store, of all places. The clock strikes midnight, and weird shit happens. All the people around you turn into coffins, for one. All electronics completely shut down. Let’s not even talk about the random pools of blood everywhere. Like I said, weird shit. So what do you do? What any normal, sane person would do, of course: Freak out and start crying. And thus, Junpei Iori was introduced to the Dark Hour. Luckily he didn’t stay a quivering mass of hysteria, for salvation came for him in a red sweater vest. Akihiko Sanada, a regular Dark Hour veteran, found Junpei and proceeded to fill him in on what the hell was going on. It turns out every night at midnight is when the Dark Hour begins. Most normal people become coffins, blissfully unaware of what’s going on. Some remain human, and of those there are people who will either not remember the Dark Hour once it’s passed, are those who do remember it. The former often become prey for the Shadows – monsters that live in the Dark Hour – and the latter can wield the power of Persona to fight the Shadows. As it turned out, Junpei had the potential to wield a Persona, and came to stay at the dorm with the rest of the Shadow-fighting squad known as SEES (Specialized Extracurricular Execution Squad). When he first joined, SEES members are few and far between. The team consisted of his two classmates: Minato Arisato (the game’s protagonist) and Yukari Takeba, the two seniors: Mitsuru Kirijo and Akihiko Sanada, and himself. As the game progresses, the team grows with the additions of fellow Junior, Fuuka Yamagishi; Aigis, a Shadow-fighting android; Koromaru, a Shadow-fighting dog; grade-schooler Ken Amada; and finally Also, Junpei meets and becomes very close to a girl named Chidori. As it turns out Chidori is a member of Strega, who, in essence, are like the Anti-SEES. This still doesn’t stop them from becoming close. They eventually fall in loooooove, but more on that in a second. Of the team, Junpei seems to be the most light-hearted. He cracks jokes often, is kind of a dork, and has a penchant for slacking on his homework. He’s eager to fight, but his reasons for doing so is to hide his insecurities. For all his bravado, Junpei feels like he’s rather useless, especially next to Minato. Let’s face it, Minato is Jesus and Junpei is not. This puts him at odds with Minato sometimes, but Junpei doesn’t stay down for long. He’s got the “class clown and all-around funny guy” mask strapped on tight, and he’s quick to put it back in place if it slips. Even so, he’s a genuinely nice guy. And also a dork. Did I mention that? Somewhere down the line, SEES captures Chidori. (She was holding Junpei hostage because he shot off his big fat mouth in attempt to impress her. Way to be, lover boy, way to be.) She is placed in a hospital, under constant supervision. Junpei visits her often, and eventually she does open up to him… only to push him away again, because she realizes she does indeed have feelings for him and that scares her. Strega eventually busts Chidori out of the hospital, and now it’s time for a showdown. Cue battle music. (DA DA DA, OOH YEAH. BABY BABY BABY--- etc etc.) SEES is forced to fight Chidori, and after the battle Junpei tries to convince her to come with them. Takaya – aka hippie Jesus, aka the leader of Strega – would have none of it, though. He shoots Junpei. Chidori, having finally come to terms with her feelings for Junpei, uses her persona’s abilities to revive him. She does so, however, at the cost of her own life. After her death, Junpei’s persona, Hermes, In battle, Junpei uses a two-handed sword. He’s no swordsman by any stretch of the imagination, and uses the sword like one would a baseball bat. (And yes he does shout “HOME RUN!” on occasion. Shut up. He’s special.) ANYWAYS. His persona is called Trismegistus, and specializes in mostly physical attacks, but it can use some fire magic as well. (And add another tic to the box for “characters that are dorks with fire magic”. I apparently collect those.) To summon said Persona, the SEES kids used what is called an “Evoker”. It looks like a gun, and basically shooting yourself in the head with it is the equivalent of throwing the proverbial Pokéball. It doesn’t do any harm or cause any pain, though. It just… looks cool or something idk. |
